We are a national organization of citizen's groups promoting socially responsible livestock production in Canada. We help communities that are dealing with problems caused by factory farms and factory farm proposals. As an alternative to industrial livestock operations, we promote livestock production that is safe, fair and healthy for the environment, farmers, workers, animals, neighbours, communities and consumers. Establishing socially responsible livestock production is a means to reach the overarching goal of food sovereignty – democratic citizen control of our food and agriculture system.

Ethanol waste as feed?
Beyond Factory Farming submited comments to CFIA regarding the draft policy of use of distillers grain from fuel ethanol production as livestock feed. Read the submission. (pdf 128kb)
Beyond Factory Farming Coalition submits brief on Bill C-33
Bill C-33, An Act to amend the Canadian Environmental Protection Act would allow the federal government to implement regulations requiring 5% average renewable content in gasoline by 2010. Subsequent regulations would also require 2% average renewable content in diesel and heating oil by 2012 on successful demonstration of renewable diesel fuel use under the range of Canadian environmental conditions.

Safe Food—Heathy Communities

Petitions to the Sustainable Development Commissioner
The Beyond Factory Farming Coalition has submitted four Environmental Petitions to the Sustainable Development Commissioner.
- Petition No. 205 Environmental, social and economic impacts of biofuel production in Canada
- Petition No. 203 Ecological and human health effects of hormones released into the environment as a result of intensive livestock production in Canada.

The Beyond Factory Farming Coalition submitted two Environmental Petitions to the Sustainable Development Commissioner in January 2007. The responses to the petitions were released in May 2007.
Antibiotic Resistance Factories
The use of antibiotics as growth promotors in factory farming causes antibiotic resistant pathogens to evolve, contaminating out environment and our food. The World Health Organization recognizes this as a serious public health problem. What’s going on in Canada?
