Cirque du Lake created a comical skit about hog factories from outer space, representing the alien disregard for the needs of the community and the ecological functioning of planet earth as part of their educational tour.

Coalition of Concerned Citizens of Huron-Kinloss
This coalition began in March 2001, upon receiving the news that Huron-Kinloss Township was about to approve a building permit for a 6000 finishing hog operation not far from Lake Huron. The coalition fought this barn through the public, political and court systems but was unable to stop the barn completely. The barn that was built is a 3,000 hog barn, and the fight continues.

Community Association for Responsible Development (CARD)
represents petitioners from the rural municipalities of Lac du Bonnet and Whitemouth who objected to an ILO application in the RM of Whitemouth, Manitoba. We look forward to working with the BFF Coalition to stop the proliferation of factory farms.

Concerned Citizens for a Safe and Healthy Environment
The group formed to oppose a 5,000 sow hog barn at Rama, Saskatchewan which was subsequently built. Currently the group focuses on the health and environmental problems caused by this type of industrial operation.

Concerned Citizens of North Glengarry
The group formed to oppose a 3000 hog finishing operation 1.5 kilometres from the village of Dalkeith, Ontario. It focuses on local lobbying, public education and health concerns.

Concerned Citizens of Thames Centre
The group stopped a proposed hog barn in the area and now focus on environmentally safe alternatives for the odor and manure of factory hog farms.

- Creek's mission is to be a pro-active effective force in monitoring Intensive Livestock Operations, to encourage them to use technologies of manure disposal which are compatible with the conservation of the ecology of the area, and to work to ensure that legislation and by-laws are written to accomplish these goals.

So long as people eat animal products, a major aspect of Eatkind.net's mission will be to encourage those people to choose the most humane and sustainable options.

- Founded in 1984, Environmental Defence Canada provides Canadians with the tools and knowledge to protect and improve their environment and health. EDC is a national, charitable organization committed to engaging the public, finding solutions, and protecting the environmental rights of future generations. EDC was previously known as the Canadian Environmental Defence Fund. EDC has a focus on factory farming and food issues.
Farms not Factories
was formed in December, 2002, to oppose a 4000-animal hog barn located adjacent to a provincially significant wetland near Tweed, eastern Ontario, and to support family farming. Activities have included extensive lobbying of the municipal council, and court actions.

aims to represent all Canadians who keep poultry as smallholders; from fanciers, breeders, preservationists, enthusiasts and hobbyists, to producers operating small-scale poultry farms. It seeks to preserve Canada's Cultural Heritage by preserving the right of smallholders to raise and sell poultry to fellow Canadians using free range, organic, naturally pastured, and other low density methods. It provides services to members and acts as a liaison with government entities and other NGOs.

- is an independent, campaigning organization that uses non-violent, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems and foster solutions for a green and peaceful future. In particular, Greenpeace is concerned about environmental damages causes by industrial foods production and distribution. Greenpeace has been active to prevent genetic contamination by GMOs (genetically modified organisms) and promote agricultural practices that are socially and ecologically sustainable.

Hogwatch Haldimand
Is a local watchdog and public education organization in an area with approximately 40 mega hog farms. The group is concerned about factory farm pollution of the Grand River and Lake Erie.

is a group in the Powell River, BC area with not only producer members, but other concerned and active people.

- is a registered society whose members are livestock producers in the East and West Kootenay region. The purposes are to promote the beef cattle industry in the Kootenays as a viable and valuable resource; to strengthen the Agriculture Industry's voice for the region; to support member organizations activities and objectives when requested; to provide protection, management and improvement of Crown Range; to improve conditions of rural life so settlement may be permanent and prosperous; and to promote the theory and practise of agriculture.

Peterborough and Kawarthas Chapter of the Council of Canadians
is particularly interested in a second hog farm application near Keene, Ontario. The chapter is also concerned about implications of NAFTA regarding hog barn investments by American companies.

Powell River Agricultural Association
runs the Open Air Market and the Fall Fair. The Open Air Market does not allow the use of chemical pesticides or herbicides, styrofoam containers, and supports the small scale ethical keeping of animals. The Market charges a straight 10% fee to sell in the market, and only locally made or produced goods, thereby encouraging town people and others with even tiny amounts of produce, baking, crafts etc. to participate.

Quill Lakes' Watch Group
was formed in late 2001 in response to the threat of a mega hog operation locating in the RM of Lakeside, near Big Quill Lake, Saskatchewan. The Quill Lakes are an exceptionally diverse area, and are used by nearly one million migrating birds each year. The group has organized public meetings and lobbied against intensive livestock zoning bylaws which have not offered adequate protection to ratepayers.

- is a federally registered charitable organization formed in 1987 dedicated to conserving, evaluating and studying heritage, rare and minor breeds of Canadian farm animals. RBC believes this can be best achieved by maintaining viable breeding groups and preserving the genetics of these rare and endangered breeds.
- Promotes the welfare of farm animals, assists in education about factory farming and works to improve animal welfare standards in the industry
Roseisle Creek Watershed Association
works on the impact of factory farming on water quality and wildlife in the local area. Particular concerns are nutrient loads in the watershed, deterioration of drinking water quality, and the land being used for manure. The group does research and policy work in Manitoba.

Saltspringers for Safe Food
is a food security organization dedicated to educating ourselves and consumers/producers/retailers about the food system in Canada. Founded to raise consciousness around the questionable health and environmental safety of genetically engineered crops and the need for labelling of GE food ingredients, the group has broadened its focus to lobby all levels of government and agencies on a wide range of food and agriculture issues. It contributed to Salt Spring Island declaring itself a GE-Free Zone and supports local sustainable agriculture and food industries by organizing with other local groups a biennial Real Food Faire to showcase local producers.

- is concerned with the environmental and labour standard issues surrounding factory farms.
- has been active in Canada since 1969, working on matters of public policy and environmental awareness. There are local activist chapters and working groups in every region of the country. The Club does extensive research on factory farm environmental and health issues.
- SERLO and it's members are undertaking progressive and very positive steps to ensure that agriculture in Alberta maintains the sustainability, economic viability and environmental stewardship that has earned Alberta farmers and their produce worldwide respect.
- Based in Archerwill, Saskatchewan this group operates a web-based clearinghouse for information about factory farming with a particular focus on Saskatchewan communities affected by industrial hog barns.
- The Union Paysanne says: to make the necessary changes towards small-scale farming, we must collectively establish an agricultural policy based on the following objectives: food sovereignty, food safety, crop diversity and biological diversity, dynamic land use, protection of the rural environment, and quality of life for farmers, rural residents and consumers. We believe the following to be the most urgent steps to take in order to achieve these objectives: encourage small farms and local marketing of products to halt the industrialization of farms and the depopulation of the countryside; ensure the quality of food and of the environment; and restore rural citizenship.
