Animal welfare

Beyond Factory Farming promotes the humane treatment of farm animals.

Internationally recognized requirements for animal welfare demand that animals be provided with freedom from:

  • Hunger and thirst
  • Discomfort
  • Pain, injury, and disease
  • Fear and distress
  • And with the freedom to express normal behaviour

Few Canadian intensive livestock operations conform to all or even some of these requirements as many pigs and chickens in factory farms never see direct sunlight, their feet never touch the earth, and they are unable to behave naturally.
