Air Pollution
From a global perspective, livestock operations are responsible for two-thirds of nitrous oxide emissions and almost two-thirds of ammonia emissions. Cattle feedlot and liquid hog manure systems emit substantial methane as well. These gases contribute to climate change, acid rain, and the acidification of ecosystems.
Communities neighbouring an ILO are often faced with bad air and report many negative health impacts because of airborne factory farm emissions.
