Beef Cattle

According to the New Brunswick Cattle Producers, there are 1200 beef producers in the province with 50% of farms involved in the beef industry in some capacity. The majority of beef farmers combine their operation with other farming activities or work part-time off the farm to stabilize their income.

Because of New Brunswick’s relatively large amount of annual rainfall, farmers have an advantage of being able to grow grass which is ideal for forage based systems.

Beef cattle raising makes up 10% of farming commodities in the province.

The majority of farms reporting beef production are in the Kings and Westmorland country (areas surrounding Sussex and Moncton). A map of "Very Large Livestock Operations” illustrates the regions with the largest farms in the province.
